Spectacular Chad!

Blown away by the landscapes of the Sahara desert  – undoubtably one of the most special places that we have been lucky enough to explore by helicopter! 1000’s of photos to go through – and here are just a few taken from the drone. We’ll be back!

Lakes of Ounianga, Northern Chad

“I enjoyed getting back to the clean harshness of the desert, the simplicity of desert life, the comradeship of desert peoples, to camels, the vast openness of the sands and the freedom of the mountains.”

Soul of the Sahara

For the first time ever we are on a safari in Chad with our helicopters. Of all the African countries, it is one of the least visited, and its appeal lies in the fact that it is virtually unexplored, with rugged wild landscape of deserts and mountains, and the stunning Zakouma National Park, best known for its massive elephant herd of 500 individuals, that stays together and moves as one.

More pyramids than Egypt

For the first time, Tropic Air led a helicopter safari in North Sudan – a country endowed with priceless secrets of a forgotten existence, and ancient cities lost in the sands.

Vast, desolate and a spectacular place to explore, with a fascinating history that is so intimately linked to Egypt, dating back 5,000 years to the time of pharaohs.

Pyramids of MeroeKingdoms and fortified settlements, and temples, pyramids and monuments of Meroe, Naga and Old Gongola – amazing to see from the helicopter, and even better to touch down and learn about their origins from expert local guides.

Anti-Poaching Training in Laikipia

Training with the rapid response anti-poaching team on Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

In preparation for wildlife related incidences and insecurity in northern Kenya’s vast rangelands, dedicated and courageous rangers are familiarized with helicopter procedures, and simulated exercises played out to ensure quick and safe response.

Thanks to Pete Newland and 51 Degrees for their ongoing commitment to keeping our wildlife safe. Thanks also to Ian Aitken for the photos!

3rd hanger for Tropic Air

Tropic Air’s 3rd hanger space is nearing completion. Modern, with new offices, this will give us the additional capacity that we need to expand our aircraft maintenance services. With a great team of engineers and mechanics, we are now not only carrying out base and line maintenance, structural repairs and avionics on our own fleet of planes and helicopters, we also have 20 different types of airplanes and helicopters within our scope of work.  For 16 years we have been an Approved Maintenance Organization, certified by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, and we are extremely proud to be one of East Africa’s best aircraft maintenance facilities.
