Raising money for the forests of Mount Kenya

A one of its kind mountain bike challenge took place on the slopes of Mount Kenya in early February, held annually in support of community and forest conservation – this year raising an astounding seven million Kenya Shillings.

Not only was TROPIC AIR  the title sponsor – but we also had a helicopter flying the film crew and providing casevac support.

‘Team Tropic’ took on the 56km off-road and downhill race – and they won!  Well done Ciprian, Anthony, Amos, Brian, Charles and Alex – all of whom work in our aircraft maintenance hangars.

New heli for Tropic!

Expanding Tropic Air’s helicopter capabilities with this brand new Airbus EC130T2 helicopter – a great addition to our existing fleet of AS350B3’s.

It has 6 passenger seats, larger roomy cabin, latest technology and superb operational performance .. accommodating large groups for our safaris in extreme comfort, and also ideal for Casevac and Medevac support.

Thanks to our engineering team, who are doing an incredible job of putting it together in our hangar at Nanyuki Airfield, headed by JD Verdet.

Spectacular Chad!

Blown away by the landscapes of the Sahara desert  – undoubtably one of the most special places that we have been lucky enough to explore by helicopter! 1000’s of photos to go through – and here are just a few taken from the drone. We’ll be back!

“I enjoyed getting back to the clean harshness of the desert, the simplicity of desert life, the comradeship of desert peoples, to camels, the vast openness of the sands and the freedom of the mountains.”

Soul of the Sahara

For the first time ever we are on a safari in Chad with our helicopters. Of all the African countries, it is one of the least visited, and its appeal lies in the fact that it is virtually unexplored, with rugged wild landscape of deserts and mountains, and the stunning Zakouma National Park, best known for its massive elephant herd of 500 individuals, that stays together and moves as one.

More pyramids than Egypt

For the first time, Tropic Air led a helicopter safari in North Sudan – a country endowed with priceless secrets of a forgotten existence, and ancient cities lost in the sands.

Vast, desolate and a spectacular place to explore, with a fascinating history that is so intimately linked to Egypt, dating back 5,000 years to the time of pharaohs.

Pyramids of MeroeKingdoms and fortified settlements, and temples, pyramids and monuments of Meroe, Naga and Old Gongola – amazing to see from the helicopter, and even better to touch down and learn about their origins from expert local guides.
