The 10to4 is Kenya’s most popular mountain bike challenge, raising money for the Mount Kenya Trust’s conservation projects, including the planting millions of trees within degraded areas of Mount Kenya’s National Reserve.
Every year Tropic Air provides helicopter hours, for free. After checking the track at dusk, we filmed the start, and some sections of the challenge. For the main part of the 2-day event, Tropic Air was on stand-by for medical evacuations. Only 4 competitors were airlifted out, nothing too serious luckily. Our medic on board was Michael Spencer of Remote Medical International, and AAR provided medical support on the ground.
This year, Ben Simpson, our Director of Helicopter Operations, switched the rotor blades for two wheels, and took on the 39km ‘Slide’ 10to4 bike challenge with his 9 year old son, Frank.
