One of Kenya’s remotest tribal groups

Pokot Cultural Visit, morning flying excursion

A morning flight from the wildlife plains of Laikipia and Lewa, landing on a bush strip, to meet the Pokot People – one of Kenya’s most unaffected tribal groups, with strong traditional values.

The Pokot live in a remote part of the Great Rift Valley, Northern Kenya, arid and desolate, where volcanic rock and the spiny leafless Acacia-Commiphora woodland dominate the land. They are amazing people with a social structure and cultural practices which enable them to survive in this difficult and hostile environment.

Dances are an important aspect of their culture especially during ceremonial events. The Pokot women wear colourful necklaces and beaded headgears, brass jewellery and beaded skirts. The men wear wrap garments made of fabric and cowhide. The warriors have red clay in their hair, and special feather headgears.

More about our fixed wing morning Pokot excursion here. Tropic Air specialised in private air charter flights, in Kenya. More recently we have launched private flying safaris for small groups (4 to 8 people), in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia. The Cessna Caravan aircraft, Pilot and professional safari guide stays with the group for the duration of the safari.
