Lifeblood of Samburu

Kenya’s 3rd longest river, the Ewaso Nyiro runs north to the arid lands of Samburu. It’s a constant and essential water source that represents life for the people, wildlife and livestock of this spectacular wilderness region. Over the last decade, the river has been running dry during extreme periods of drought.

As we flew over Samburu a week ago, its desolate landscape apparent, it is a huge relief to see the river flowing again. Rains on the Aberdares and Mount Kenya have been well received, and now hoping for a few showers to get the grass growing again.
