First flight for 101 year old Maasai lady

Helicopter flight birthday treat, Mt Kenya to the Mukogodo Hills

It’s not everyday that someone turns 101! And that same day, takes her first flight.

On 22nd November ‘Mama Lekoren’, a Maasai Lady living on the foothills of Mount Kenya, celebrated her 101st birthday, surrounded by friends and family.

The day kicked off with a Tropic Air complimentary helicopter flight, with this grand old lady taking to the sky for the first time in her life.

We flew her over the Laikipia plains, back to her birthplace – the beautiful forested hills of the Mukogodo in Northern Kenya.

Covering 30,000 Ha, the Mukogodo is one of East Africa’s largest remaining dry forests. Within a grassy glade, Mama Lekoren stepped out of the helicopter and visited her home where she was born, and later raised her family.

Tropic Air is an air charter and helicopter company, operating from Nanyuki Airfield, on the equator in Kenya.
