| Fossilised fish Found in the Suguta Valley |
|
Tropic Air supported a geological survey in the remote Suguta Valley, northern Kenya. The team came across these tiny fossilised fish (1 – 2 inches in length), estimated to be 15,000 years old. For centuries, this region has attracted scientists from all over the world – they have studied ancient sediments and fossil remains, and found the occasional human artefact. They have pieced together the history of a lake that rose and fell multiple times over the past 18,000 years. Today, the Suguta Valley floods for a few days a year, and otherwise it is best recognised by its extensive sand dunes, volcanic outcrops and seasonal streams and water holes.
